This episode is all about time and money. Should you exchange your time for money and how long are you going to keep waking up early only to grind the nine to five job.
So, in this episode, I will be talking about trading time for money and how it sucks, to be honest. So, you are trading, something very precious and something you will never get back.
And while you are building a business, you’re switching your mindset to another form of working, and that is trading time for results rather than trading time for money, which you are doing if you are in a 9-5 job.
And the 9-5 job I see that as a default path to follow. And to be honest, I kind of like… Now that I have built a business and I see all the things that come with it, I think building a business is the greatest thing you can do. But it’s also one of the hardest things to do.
Concept of trading time
About the trading time concept. When you’re working on a nine to five job, the employer will pay you from the time you are working in the company. And when you are building a business and become an entrepreneur, you are actually trading time for results, and those results will bring you the money eventually.
However, the amount of time you have to put into your company and your business is enormous. I think many entrepreneurs that just start out me included, I thought that Okay. I just create a service. I create a product. I just put things to sale, and I get money, and that’s that.
Being completely wrong
How wrong was I, I thought that I could make money, the moment I released my product or service to sale. It’s so far from the truth. It doesn’t work like that.
First, you have to and have to say these are new thoughts that I’m having with the business side of things instead of you have to have patience when you are building a business.
I have been rushing, I have hustled, I have done a lot of things in a very short amount of time, and I have had results, but that’s a concept called fast money, like fast cash. You get results, but what hit me like maybe a few hours ago was that fast cash, I get from my business currently. It’s not sustainable, it won’t last, and I know it, it just won’t last.
Build something that lasts and is sustainable
So I have to build something that lasts, I have to trade my time for results, but those results they have to carry on like years. The results I’m currently producing are from the mindset of getting cash fast, and I get that it’s a wrong way of building a business. I’m not building a business that lasts.
And those that do get results and have to build a business, they have shed sweat and tears to get that result or those results. And I have done that too, I’m not gonna say like I have been lazy, I have busted my ass here.
The thing is that I haven’t had the right mindset, I haven’t had the right focus in my business, I’m totally focused on getting fast results, and that’s not the way to go.
About the nine to five job
Getting back to the nine to five job thing. In 9-5 job, you wake up early in the morning, you go to the job. You do your thing there, you get paid for the thing. And you will come back home, and then you do the same thing the next day.
If your job is something that you’re not passionate about, you don’t get excited about the job you are currently doing. Now wouldn’t that be wasting your life? Wouldn’t you be wasting your time? And remember that time is the thing that you will never get it back, and that’s kind of like the thing that is driving me forward here.
Getting everything out of your life
I know that my time is limited in my life. Kind of like, my lifeline is limited that I don’t, most likely, I won’t be living, to be 150 years old, so my time is limited. And I want to get the most out of my life in that short period of time on this planet.
And that hit me like a few years ago. And that’s also the reason I have rushed things as I want to get out of my 9-5 job as fast as I can. So that I could be using my time more preciously like getting more done and giving more for you, for example.
So the hours that I do, or work in a 9-5 job, they are very kind of like I have this mindset of “I’m wasting my time, and I never get it back.” I get money from the time I spend in the work, but do I find my work meaningful? I think the answer is no.
I do meaningful work; however, that’s a different thing.
Trading time of your life for others
If you are in a, let’s say, in the healthcare business, or who are working in healthcare, you are doing a marvelous job. You are providing aid for the ones that need it. And I think it’s a very, very valuable work you are doing. But is it meaningful and valuable for you?
And I think… Now, someone could be saying like, then you’re a selfish person if you aid people, and you are expecting to get something out of it to yourself.
I disagree, I think you should be doing work that helps others but also helps you. So you think about the others, but you are also thinking about yourself. After all, you are trading the time of your life, for money.
Shouldn’t you also be trading time in your life for something that is meaningful to you and is helping you? You to grow to a better person for example? Wouldn’t that be something that we should strive for?
Okay, yeah, I just wanted to do this quick episode on trading time for money and how I see it as a very bad way of spending your time. I think you should be spending your time on things that actually matter to you. But I know it’s super hard to get into that position to do that. Like super hard.
I have been doing it a few years now, and I still have a lot to learn. But then again those two years I have done building my business bite-by-bite, step-by-step. I still have a lot to learn. And this podcast will be doing these as often as I can, to build something great, something for people.
So that’s all for this episode, and hopefully, you enjoyed listening to it, and I’m still practicing how to end these episodes. Then again, these are the first ones I’m creating, so I don’t create any pressure for myself, I will just do these as I see fit and hopefully, you like them.
